Cook County State’s Attorney Will Not Support Illinois’ Ban on Gay Marriage

On Behalf of Shapiro, Cohen & Basinger Trial Lawyers | Aug 15, 2012 | Firm News

I was heartened to see that Cook County Sate’s attorney Anita Alvarez will not be wasting money supporting Illinois’ ban on gay marriage. She feels and I agree that it is unconstitutional under Illinois law. If gay couples want to commit to each other why shouldn’t they have the right to do so? People who object to this on the grounds that marriage is between a man and a woman have to confront reality: there are gay people. So work on your own marriage if you want it to be “sacred” and let your neighbors be free to live their lives as they choose.
